Where to Sell Your Phone in India: Every Option Compared
You can sell a used phone in India in three main ways, and there are about a dozen places to choose from. Each option works best for different people, so they are not really in competition.
This guide will help you understand each option, who it is best for, and what you might be giving up with each choice.
Before we start, a quick note: Cashkr is one of the services mentioned below, and it is our own. We have not put ourselves first, and we encourage you to remember this as you read our opinions on other services. We focus on what each service offers, not on who pays the most, since we cannot confirm other companies’ payouts. You will only know for sure once you get a quote.

The Three Types
Buyback services: You answer some questions about your phone, get an instant price, and book a free pickup. Someone comes to your door, checks the phone, and pays you. There is no need to list your phone, meet strangers, or haggle. You usually get less money than a private sale because the company takes a margin.
Classifieds: You create your own listing and deal directly with buyers. This usually gets you the most money since there is no middleman. However, it takes more time and comes with real risks of payment fraud.
Exchange offers: You trade in your old phone when buying a new one. The value is given as a discount, not cash. This is convenient if you are already planning to buy from that store.
All the options below fall into one of these three types.
Buyback Services
What all buyback services have in common: you get an instant online quote, free doorstep pickup, an inspection to check your phone’s condition, and payment through UPI or bank transfer.
What makes them different: the cities and pincodes they serve, the types of devices they accept, and most importantly, whether the quote you get is fixed or can change at your door. Always ask about this, even with us.

A note about Yaantra: Some older guides still list it as an independent option. Flipkart bought Yaantra in January 2022, so it is now part of Flipkart’s group and does not operate separately. Always check what is actually available before following older advice.
Who this is best for: people who want to sell their phone today, do not want to meet strangers, and are okay with getting a bit less money.
Classifieds and Private Sale
Platform
Positioning
Key Features
OLX
Major classifieds platform for used phones
Large pool of private buyers and broad reach across India.
Quikr
Alternative classifieds platform
Smaller audience compared to OLX, with potentially less competition for listings.
Who this is best for: people who have time, patience, and are willing to handle payments carefully.
What you are risking: Every payment scam we know about happens in private sales. These include fake payment screenshots, UPI collect requests that take money instead of sending it, overpayment refund tricks, and swapping phones during handover. These scams are not rare.
If you choose this route, read our guide on how to sell your phone online safely first. In short: make sure the money is in your app before you hand over the phone, and remember that you never need to share your PIN to receive money.
Exchange Offers
Platform
Positioning
Key Features
Amazon Exchange
Device exchange during checkout
Allows customers to trade in an old device while purchasing a new one on Amazon. The exchange value is deducted from the new device's price.
Flipkart Exchange
Device exchange during checkout
Allows customers to exchange an old device while buying a new one. Additional exchange bonuses may be available during major sale events.
Ignore any guide that still recommends 2GUD. Flipkart’s refurbished section stopped operating on 27 March 2020, and both the site and app were taken down. By 2022, Flipkart also removed refurbished sales from its own platform. If a list still mentions 2GUD, it has not been updated.
Who this is best for: people who have already decided to buy a new phone from that particular site.
What to keep in mind: The exchange value is a discount, not cash. If you compare it to a cash offer, make sure you are comparing similar things, and remember you cannot use a discount elsewhere. During big sales, the extra exchange bonus can make this option competitive, but outside of sales, it often is not.
Online or the Shop Down the Road?
A local mobile shop will buy your phone. It is worth being fair about the trade-off rather than dismissing it.
The shop gives you cash on the spot, lets you deal with someone face-to-face, and there is no waiting. If you know the shop, that can be an advantage.
The downside is that the shop sets the price without competition, there is no written record of your agreement, and usually no quote to compare with.
Online, you get a price before anyone sees your phone, and you can compare offers from different services. You also get a record of what was agreed.
The downside of selling online is that you may have to wait a day, and the process is usually fixed with little room for negotiation.
A helpful middle path is to get an online quote first, even if you plan to sell at a shop. This way, you know your phone’s value before you go in. That one step can be more valuable than choosing one route over the other.
How to Get the Best Price Anywhere
These apply whichever route you take.
Be honest about your phone’s condition. This is the most important tip. Most problems happen when there is a difference between what you say and what the inspector finds. If you describe your phone accurately, you are more likely to get the quoted price.
Check your battery health and say the number. On iPhone: Settings, Battery, Battery Health and Charging. It is the first thing checked and the figure most owners have never looked at.
Find the original box, charger, cable, and bill. These can increase your price and make the process faster.
Remove the case and screen protector so the real condition is visible, and clean your phone.
Do not repair a crack just to sell your phone. Repairs often cost more than they add in value, and using non-original parts can lower the phone’s worth even more. The only exception is a swelling battery, which is a safety concern.
Get quotes from more than one place. It only takes a couple of minutes and is the easiest way to see if an offer is fair. Our guide on checking your phone’s resale value explains how to do this.
Do not wait too long. Used phone prices drop every month and fall even more when a new model comes out.
Before Any Sale, Wherever You Sell
Follow these steps in order. Doing them out of order can stop the sale from happening.
Back up your data and check the backup works.
Move your authenticator app to your new phone.
Sign out of your Google or Apple account yourself.
Take out the SIM and memory card, and remove any eSIM.
Factory reset.
If you reset while still signed in, the phone stays locked to your account and nobody else can set it up.
So Which Should You Pick?
If you want the most money and have time, use OLX or Quikr. Just be careful with payment.
If you want to sell your phone today with no hassle, use a buyback service. Compare at least two services.
If you are already buying a new phone from Amazon or Flipkart, check their exchange offers, especially during sales.
If your phone is broken or will not turn on, use a buyback service. Most private buyers will not buy it, but a dead phone still has value for its parts.
If your phone is completely dead and has no value, do not use either option. Use the brand’s free takeback program or an authorized recycler. Our guide to recycling old devices explains how.
1. Which is the best website to sell a mobile phone in India?
It depends what you want. Classifieds like OLX pay the most but take the longest and carry payment risk. Buyback services like Cashkr, Cashify or Budli finish in a day for less money. Exchange offers on Amazon and Flipkart are worth checking if you are buying there anyway. There is no single best one for everybody.
2. Do buyback sites pay less than a private sale?
Yes, generally. A company is taking a margin, and you are paying that margin for speed and for not dealing with a stranger. Whether that is worth it depends on how you value your time.
3. Is the online quote the amount I actually get?
Only if your description of the phone matches what the inspector finds. Ask any service whether the quote is fixed before pickup or can be revised at your door, and describe every fault honestly so there is nothing to find.
4. Is selling online safer than selling to a local shop?
For payment, yes, because a company transfers the money and there is a record. A shop gives you cash today but sets the price with no competition. Get an online quote before you visit a shop, so you know what the phone is worth.
5. Are exchange offers better than selling for cash?
Only if you were buying from that site anyway. The value arrives as a discount, not cash, so you cannot spend it elsewhere. During a big sale event the bonus can make it competitive.
6. Can I sell a broken or dead phone?
Yes, to a buyback service, at a lower price. The parts still have value. Say clearly that it is damaged when you get the quote so the number does not change at collection.
7. What should I do before selling on any platform?
Back up, sign out of your Google or Apple account, remove the SIM and eSIM, then factory reset, in that order. Resetting before signing out locks the phone to you and the sale cannot complete.
