Huawei MateBook Pro S Price: Launched With 798g Body, 120Hz OLED

Huawei has not announced the MateBook Pro S price in India yet, since the premium laptop has only launched in China so far. Based on Chinese prices, the base 16GB + 512GB model would be about Rs. 1,12,700, while the top Collector's Edition with 32GB + 1TB would be around Rs. 2,11,200. The Standard and Soft Light Screen versions go on sale in China from August 14, and the Privacy Screen and Collector's Edition will be available from August 28.

The MateBook Pro S is Huawei's flagship ultrabook, featuring a 14.2-inch 120Hz flexible OLED touchscreen, the new Kirin XE90 chipset, HarmonyOS 6.1, and a very light body starting at just 798g and 11.9mm thick. It comes in four versions: Standard, Soft Light Screen, Privacy Screen, and Collector's Edition. All models offer AI features, stylus support, and all-day battery life.

Here’s a closer look at the laptop’s features and what the pricing could mean for buyers.

  • Quick summary: The Huawei MateBook Pro S starts at CNY 7,999 (Rs. 1,12,700) in China, on sale from August 14. Its headlines are the 798g weight, a 14.2-inch 3.1K 120Hz OLED touchscreen at 1,600 nits, the Kirin XE90 chip, and up to 18 hours of claimed battery life. The critical caveat: it runs HarmonyOS 6.1, not Windows, and an India launch is not confirmed.

Huawei MateBook Pro S Price and Availability

Here is the complete pricing from the China launch:

VariantPrice (China)Approx. Price (INR)
16GB + 512GBCNY 7,999₹1,12,700
24GB + 512GBCNY 8,999₹1,26,800
24GB + 1TBCNY 10,499₹1,47,900
Soft Light Screen (24GB + 512GB)CNY 9,999₹1,40,800
Privacy Screen (24GB + 512GB)CNY 10,299₹1,45,200
Privacy Screen (24GB + 1TB)CNY 11,799₹1,66,200
Collector's Edition (32GB + 1TB)CNY 14,999₹2,11,200

The Standard and Soft Light Screen variants go on sale in China from August 14, with the Privacy Screen and Collector's Edition following from August 28.

The launch in India has not been confirmed, and Huawei laptops have not been widely available in India in recent years, so the INR numbers should only be used as guides. It's interesting to learn about how the editions are put together. The Soft Light Screen adds a matte, paper-like finish to cut down on glare, and the Privacy Screen is the first screen in this class to build a switchable anti-peeping filter right into the screen.

Display: 14.2 Inch Flexible OLED at 120Hz and 1,600 Nits

The MateBook Pro S features a 14.2-inch flexible OLED touchscreen with a 3120 × 2080-pixel resolution, a productivity-friendly 3:2 aspect ratio, a 120Hz refresh rate, up to 1,600 nits peak brightness, P3 and sRGB color gamut support, and 10-point multi-touch.

This screen is better than the ones on most high-end Windows ultrabooks. With a 3:2 aspect ratio and 3.1K resolution, you have more vertical room for documents and browsing than with a 16:10 screen. The 120Hz OLED screen has deep blacks and smooth scrolling, and the 1,600 nits peak brightness is brighter than most high-end laptops. It works with touch, the M-Pen 3, and both P3 and sRGB color gamuts, which makes it a great choice for artists.

Performance: Kirin XE90 With HarmonyOS 6.1

Powering the laptop is Huawei's new Kirin XE90 chipset, paired with up to 32GB of RAM and up to 1TB of SSD storage, running HarmonyOS 6.1.

The operating system is the most important thing to know about this laptop. HarmonyOS 6.1 is Huawei's own platform, not Windows, so you cannot run Windows desktop applications. All software is available through the Huawei App Market, and the experience is designed for Huawei's ecosystem. If you already use Huawei devices, the integration is smooth and complete. For others, the main concern is whether the apps you need are available.

The Kirin XE90 itself is designed for productivity, multitasking, content creation, and AI workflows, and generous memory options up to 32GB give it real headroom.

AI Features and Ecosystem Integration

Huawei has bundled its Xiaoyi AI assistant across the laptop: Smart Notes, Smart Search, In-Depth Research, AI Smart Karaoke, AI Noise Reduction Calls, and the Xiaoyi Input Method.

The ecosystem features are where HarmonyOS shines: Huawei Share, SuperTerminal, Cross Device Clipboard, wireless and wired screen casting, keyboard and mouse sharing across devices, Huawei Notes, and Huawei Cloud Space. For owners of Huawei phones and tablets, files, clipboards, and inputs flow between devices in a way that mirrors Apple's Mac and iPhone continuity.

Camera, Audio and Conferencing

The MateBook Pro S includes a 1080p front camera and, unusually for a laptop, a 1080p rear camera as well, plus ambient light sensors on both sides, four speakers, and six microphones.

The six-microphone array with AI noise reduction targets serious video conferencing quality, and the quad speakers back up the OLED for media consumption. The rear camera enables document capture and unusual conferencing angles that standard laptops cannot do.

Battery: 54Wh With Up to 18 Hours of Claimed Playback

The laptop packs a 54Wh battery with 66W USB Type-C fast charging and a claimed video playback figure of up to 18 hours.

That battery claim is impressive for such a lightweight laptop. Even if real-world use is a bit less, it should still last all day. The 66W USB-C charging also means you can use one compact charger for both your laptop and phone.

Design: 798g Is the Real Headline

Huawei's engineering flex is the body: thickness from 11.9mm and weight from just 798g, with a full-size backlit keyboard offering 1.5mm key travel, a large pressure-sensitive touchpad, and support for the Huawei M-Pen 3 stylus.

To put it in perspective, the lightest premium ultrabooks in India, such as the Asus Zenbook A14, are just under 1kg. The MateBook Pro S is about 200g lighter and around 460g lighter than a MacBook Air, yet it has a bigger, sharper, and faster display. It also includes a fingerprint reader in the power button and a side switch that either activates the privacy display or turns off the camera, microphone, and location. This makes it one of the most portable high-performance laptops available.

The Standard Edition comes in Midsummer Purple, Dawn Yellow, Smoky Grey, and Velvet White. The Soft Light Screen has Midsummer Purple and Feather Black, the Privacy Screen has Dawn Yellow and Velvet White, and the Collector's Edition has Smoky Grey and Feather Black.

Connectivity

Connectivity includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 6.0, two USB Type-C (USB 3.2 Gen 1) ports with DisplayPort 1.2 support for up to 4K 60Hz output, and the fingerprint power button.

There are some limitations: it only has two USB-C ports, with no Type-A or HDMI, so you’ll need adapters for many accessories. Also, USB 3.2 Gen 1 with DisplayPort 1.2 is not as advanced as the Thunderbolt 4 ports found on other premium Windows laptops.

How It Compares With Premium Ultrabooks in India

Since the MateBook Pro S is China-only for now, here is how it would stack against India's premium ultraportables at its converted price:

Apple MacBook Air M4 (Rs. 97,900 to Rs. 99,900): It's a cheaper macOS. The Huawei has a 120Hz OLED touchscreen that is sharper than the Air's 60Hz LCD screen. It also supports styluses and is 460g lighter. The Huawei has a better screen and is easier to carry around than the Mac.

Dell XPS 13 (from Rs. 79,990): The value benchmark features a 2.5K 120Hz tablet and is compatible with all versions of Windows for a significantly lower price. The OLED screen, the MateBook's weight, and the Huawei environment are the only things that make it worth the extra money.

Asus Zenbook A14 (Rs. 81,990): India's sub-1 kg champion with a 29-hour rated battery. The MateBook is lighter still at 798g with a superior display, but the Zenbook runs Windows and costs roughly Rs. 30,000 less than Huawei's base conversion.

In summary, the MateBook Pro S is ahead of all Indian rivals in terms of display quality and weight. However, because it runs HarmonyOS and is priced at a premium, it is best suited for people who already use Huawei products, rather than for most mainstream buyers.

Should You Buy the Huawei MateBook Pro S?

The MateBook Pro S is aimed at professionals, creators, and Huawei ecosystem users who want a spectacular OLED display, class-leading portability at 798g, all-day battery life, stylus support, and deep cross-device integration with Huawei phones and tablets.

However, the HarmonyOS platform means no Windows applications, app availability outside China is untested, and the laptop is currently China-only with no confirmed India launch, which makes it a niche recommendation outside Huawei's home market.

Final Verdict

The Huawei MateBook Pro S stands out for its hardware: a 3.1K 120Hz OLED touchscreen with 1,600 nits brightness, up to 32GB of RAM, a claimed 18-hour battery life, and a body that weighs just 798g—lighter than many tablets. No other laptop sold in India today matches it for display and portability.

The main difference is the software. HarmonyOS 6.1 works very well for people who already use Huawei devices, but it is a big limitation for anyone who relies on Windows applications. For now, the laptop is only available in China from August 14. If Huawei launches it in India, it would be the most portable premium laptop here, but with a major software limitation. Watch Huawei’s official channels for any news about international availability.

  • Bottom line: The Huawei MateBook Pro S costs CNY 7,999 to CNY 14,999 (~Rs. 1,12,700 to Rs. 2,11,200) in China, on sale from August 14. Its 798g weight, 14.2-inch 120Hz OLED at 1,600 nits, and 18-hour battery claim are class-leading, but it runs HarmonyOS instead of Windows, and an India launch is not confirmed.

FAQs

1. What is the Huawei MateBook Pro S price?

In China, it starts at CNY 7,999 (Rs. 1,12,700) for 16GB + 512GB and tops out at CNY 14,999 (~Rs. 2,11,200) for the Collector's Edition with 32GB + 1TB. Soft Light Screen and Privacy Screen editions sit in between, from CNY 9,999 and CNY 10,299 respectively.

2. Will the Huawei MateBook Pro S launch in India?

Huawei has not announced availability in India or other global markets. Given Huawei's minimal laptop presence in India in recent years, the INR figures are conversion references rather than expected local prices.

3. Does the Huawei MateBook Pro S run Windows?

No. It runs HarmonyOS 6.1, Huawei's own operating system. Windows desktop applications are not supported, and software comes through the Huawei App Market, which makes the ecosystem a deciding factor for buyers.

4. What display does the MateBook Pro S have?

A 14.2-inch flexible OLED tablet with a resolution of 3120 × 2080, a 3:2 aspect ratio, a refresh rate of 120Hz, up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness, support for P3 and sRGB colors, and 10-point multi-touch. It comes in Standard, Soft Light matte, and switchable Privacy Screen versions.

5. How light is the Huawei MateBook Pro S?

At just 798g and 11.9mm thick, it's lighter than India's sub-1 kg champion, the Asus Zenbook A14, by roughly 200g, and around 460g lighter than a MacBook Air, while still fitting a full-size backlit keyboard and a 54Wh battery.

6. What processor powers the MateBook Pro S?

Huawei's new Kirin XE90 chipset, along with 16GB, 24GB, or 32GB of RAM and 512GB or 1TB of SSD storage, is optimized for work, making content, and AI tasks running on HarmonyOS 6.1.

7. What is the battery life of the MateBook Pro S?

Huawei says that the 54Wh battery can play videos for up to 18 hours, and the 66W USB Type-C fast charge makes charging even faster. Mixed use in the real world will land lower, but it should still be enough to cover a full shift.

8. What AI features does the MateBook Pro S include?

Huawei's Xiaoyi assistant runs Smart Notes, Smart Search, In-Depth Research, AI Smart Karaoke, AI Noise Reduction Calls, and the Xiaoyi Input Method. It also runs community tools like Huawei Share, SuperTerminal, and Cross Device Clipboard.

9. What is the Privacy Screen edition?

It adds an anti-peeping filter to the screen that can be turned on and off by a side switch. This makes the screen unreadable from side angles when needed. On some versions, flipping the same switch turns off the camera, microphone, and location permissions.

10. How does the MateBook Pro S compare to the MacBook Air M4?

There are a lot more macOS apps for the MacBook Air M4 (Rs. 97,900 to Rs. 99,900 in India), and it's cheaper than the MateBook's base model. Huawei's response has a sharper 120Hz OLED screen, supports styluses, and is about 460g lighter. This makes Huawei's hardware the winner and its software the loser.
